The purpose of this part is to synchronize the speed of the main shaft and the countershaft during gear changes. This helps to prevent grinding and wear on the gears. The synchronizer is a ring with clutch plates that are engaged and disengaged by a sleeve. When the sleeve is engaged, the clutch plates lock the main shaft and the countershaft together, allowing a smooth and quiet gear change.
